I am rather excited to be starting a new project this semester. The project is based on creating a character personal to us; referencing the roaring 20's culture in Berlin.I am going to read Goodbye to Berlin to get a feel for the project as requested.
I am excited to be researching the 20's as I find the era all very visually pleasing. As well as the party culture. I also look forward into touching upon the political issues such as sexism and the start of feminism. As this is something I could possibly reference and show through my character. I am extremely intrigued by the sexual movement in Berlin in the 20's as I thought it would not be approved. As eve today it can be a sensitive subject.
As a starting point I will be watching the film and production (online) of Joe Masteroff Cabaret musical film. Using this film as a starting point will help me to get a feel of the whole culture and popular characters conveyed. I am looking forward to being able to create both a historically correct character and contemporary.
I want to develop my technical skills this term and I feel that blocking out brows will really test my skills, as this is something I have failed at before. But am willing to practice to make progress. When using colour I will make sure the right colours are used to reference the era and characters persona.
