The emcee is the seedy mysterious character of which we know nothing about! Other than he is creepy and pervy. We only see him behind a backdrop performing .He is like the puppet master and the girls are his uppets. When reading the script and watching the film I think nothing of him, other than what a mesmerizing persona. But when I watch it and read the script again I begin to question who is he? Why does his face stick in my mind?
The Kit Kat girls. These are his girls, this is his club! The emcee makes money off these girls. He is a pimp. He seductively sells the girls singing and mocking them. Is he a misogynist. He is not a slave to voyeurism he likes to sell them to his sinful crowd.
Why am I linking the emcee to be gangster like/pimp? He is making money in his club by selling his girls, he is encouraging paid for sex, drug use and more. Treating women like objects. Under his roof he has complete control over his place. Mocking the women using sarcasm" each one a virgin you don't believe me?" Almost encouraging they have sex to find out. He is manipulative in a extremely sly way.
"Leave your troubles outside" "Forget it! Life in here is so beautiful" This is a form of escapism the customers may see hi club as escapism from the Nazis trying to take control. From reality. Making this club almost another world, he tries to make his clients feel safe as if they never want to leave. He says "life in here is so beautiful" I thought yes but for how long will this feeling last? Until the cocaine or chosen form of drug is gone? Until the curtains draw? Then back to reality the club and his character is almost dream like, fantasy. Which is why I want to explore this scene and character I can answer my own queries with my thoughts I make up.
