FMS505.K_Chidlow.goodbyetoberline: Emcee.

My chosen character is the emcee. Why the emcee? I find him extremely intriguing. We are told very little about him. "He is a bizarre little figure, much lipstick, much rouge-painted leather hair-parted in the middle". Bizarre we do not know much about him he is such a not an obvious significant character.

I have chosen him as I can create a story for him. Explaining who he is, justification for his behaviour and concepts behind his look. To me the emcee is a sleazy,odd character.We only ever see him on stage when he is performing. Therefore do not know what he is like behind the persona. He seems like a lively character, I imagine him bouncing around the stage, like in the movie cabaret.

This image I feel portrays the emcee on stage. Eyes wide open taking in the audience. Huge grin on his face as he introduces the acts. Rubbing his hands together with delight. As if he has just laid eyes on a three course meal. Acting as if the girls are desserts a treat almost. He is looking at the girls in a derogatory way.

This is how I visualize him off stage. Stern, powerful and intimidating. He looks as though he is rather wealthy from his clean cut suit. His hair, makeup and clothing is pristine. His facial features are extremely pointy. His cane I can almost imagine him using it as a weapon it makes him look powerful. To me he looks gangster for that era. Not only from the traits I have gathered, but from this image has made me start to create a contemporary character.

Theatre.

I have looked at how others have perceived the emcee. To me they all look sort of bondage like. Very camp. I like to see to get the overall feel of how the character intended to be. From these images almost clown like. Very made up, powerful and rather sleazy looking. I have noticed the images reference the period of Goodbye to Berlin well, as the braces show he is exploring his sexuality perhaps along with the makeup.
