Act One - Scene Four.
We are invited into the seedy, provocative Kit Kat club. Where the MC is introducing the act. We get the clubs whole ethos. Its like an escapism from all of the political and socail issues that remain outside of the club.
This is the scene we are introduced to the exquisite Sally Bowles. Sally begins by performing a song called mama. She is described by the author as being "rather pretty, rather sophisticated, rather child-like,exasperating and irresistible."()
Sally begins performing her song singing of how she does not want her mother knowing how she lives. We find out a bit about her background of how she is English, how her parents do not know about the life she lives
Not only is Cliff introduced to Sally Bowles but so are we. Sally and Cliff are introducing themselves to each other. Sally appears to be coming onto Cliff "we could sneak upstairs" () From this we get the gist that she's promiscuous. From this I can gather some of Sallys characteristics her charming side, and child-like side.
We discover why Cliff is here to write a novel. We get an incline of Cliffs sexuality as Bobby asks him to dance this would've been viewed as possibly unusual of that period, but not in the context of the club culture.
