I am camera.

I am a camera is a British comedy that is based on Christopher Isherwoods novels of Berlin. In this adaption of the script and novel Sally is portrayed as being very sophisticated in comparison with later adaptations. This is not only portrayed through her rejecting Chris as a sexual partner as she feels it will ruin their friendship. According to the novel and script Sally would not have turned down sex. She was extremely sexually active.

Sallys sophistication was shown through not only her character but her overall look. When we first see Sally in the club. She is wearing a long black sequined skirt. At first I was surprised at how short the skirt was. There was a split in the skirt which I suppose could suggest she's classy but also has another side to her. On her upper body she is wearing a white buttoned up blouse with a bow tie at the collar. Sally is sporting a sequined blazer on top. I found this outfit to be extremely interesting. Sally is being shown in a completely different light. She looks sophisticated, pretty and innocent. These may of been the key words take from the script they used when moulding their ideal Sally. The out fit is androgynous and smart with a hint of glamour.  The long cigarette makes her look chic I love it as a prop. Her hair is in a soft looking bob with just the ends curled up. Sally has a short fringe which emphasises her face. Yet I believe this style may have been used to appeal to a contemporary audience. I am camera was created in 1955 a short fringe was very 50's pin up girl. Sally has thin round brows, big curled lashes. Fair skin and i'm guessing red lips. Sally has a drawn on ole which almost looks heart shaped.

The way Sally explains her green nails in this adaptation is "to attract men" . Of which is obviously works for everyone to ask her. In this film it also touches upon political issues. Of how the nazi have not yet rose to power but hang around street corners terrorising people making them feel intimidated. Natalia speaks of how she loves Sallys independent and how she feels more women should be independent. Showing womens opinions are becoming voiced.
